Kitchen Cabinet-how to Select Your Dream Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets

Modern lightwood dollhouse kitchen

When choosing a kitchen cabinet, the first step to do is to select your favorite wood species from the most popular selecting circle: maple, cherry, ash, birch and oak, and then the door style and the color for the door. Selecting processes for most of kitchen cabinets will follow these 3 steps.

While in order to make the cabinet reflect your unique style and taste to stand out of the normal kitchen cabinet that exist in every common family, details are the most important things to achieve this effect.

The first thing to be taken into account is the above-cabinet treatments. Combine crown or classic crown molding with one of the several decorative molding inserts a look that reflects your own personal style. Whether you’re classic or contemporary, moldings can make a dramatic difference. Details are the things you need to pay attention to. If the curve sharp and smooth? A good workmanship and quality knife used to cut the molding will have very sharp and smooth curve and clear profile. If you use your figure to feel the cutting, you can tell if it is smooth or rough. Also, you can look at the pattern is consistent, for example, if the flower crafted on the column is vivid and consistent for the cutting? Will some place of the cutting too shallow or too deep? Consistency shows the workmanship, the knife and the equipment of your kitchen cabinets manufacturer.

The second thing is decorative pediments that provide a classic look for entertainment centre Read the rest of this entry

Keeping your kitchen clean – Part 4

nyc hells kitchen 9th avenue

I have a deep need to keep my kitchen clean. Especially my kitchen floor. I have a toddler and she will often pick something up that she has dropped in the kitchen and eat it off the floor. I discourage her from doing this but its inevitable. So that has made me even more of a fanatic about a clean kitchen.

I don’t believe that you can get a floor clean with a mop. I truly don’t. I see mops as disgusting items. How can it possibly be sanitary? Its got to be a breeding ground of germs. The same with the kitchen sponge which I do not use. I use a clean kitchen dish rag every single day. NO sponges. I don’t care if you rinse it out and let it dry when you are done or not. Its just nasty. And mops are even more nasty. So I do my floors the old fashioned way. Every three days I load a bucket with bleach and water and I scrub the floor on my hands and knees using a dishcloth. I can get into all the corners that way. I can get up under the counters. I pick up every little speck of dirt and scrub every inch of the floor. Yes, its hard on your knees but its well worth it. After my every three day bleach scrub Read the rest of this entry

Shopping for Kitchen Cabinets: Let the Adventure Begin!

Kitchen / Office Shelves, Lamp On

When we decided to renovate the kitchen, we quickly realized that kitchen cabinets are expensive. There are a large amount of choices ranging from your average cabinet on the store shelf to the RTA – ready to assemble cabinets that are becoming more popular. Keep in mind, there is an equal amount of junk cabinets that are over priced. So how do you find a good cabinet at a fair price?

We found various kitchen cabinet web sites and then stumbled across RTA cabinets. While laying out the kitchen ourselves, it became apparent that we could easily assemble the cabinets as well, so it then became an easy decision to choose RTA Cabinets.

Everyone is accustomed to going to a hardware store and paying high prices for kitchen cabinets. Now, you can go online, order cabinets, find a much larger and better selection, and have the kitchen cabinets delivered to your door. Another nice feature is that these cabinets are actually made of better material than the cabinets you would buy at Home Depot, IKEA, or Lowes. The preceding stores use wood faces (the door of the cabinets), but the rest of the cabinets are made of cardboard or particleboard. It sounds strange to say cardboard for a kitchen cabinet but these stores are selling cabinets that are made of high grade cardboard.

On the other hand, RTA cabinets are made of solid wood faces and solid Read the rest of this entry

How to reduce hazardous products in your kitchen

pink and green kitchen remodel

The Incredible Shrinking Woman,is a movie that was made in the early 80s that was disguised as a sci-fi, comic fantasy. In reality, however, it was meant to be an environmental cry for help in freeing households from dangerous chemicals that have charred our skin, lungs, bloodstreams, and septic tanks since the early 50’s when enhanced cleaning products began to flood the market. The Shrinking Woman, played by Lily Tomlin, mixed just the wrong kitchen chemicals together, which began a shrinking process that could not be stopped.

Fortunately, there has never really been a case where anyone shrank away to nothing due to kitchen cleansers, but we must ask ourselves what these chemicals are doing to our bodies and our environment. We do get them on our skin and breathe them into our lungs. We do pour them down our drains and out into the world. And it is possible to do real and immediate damage to any of these things if we mix the wrong kitchen chemicals together. The one bright note in all of this is that we don’t HAVE to use any harmful kitchen cleansers in order to keep our kitchens clean.

To reduce (or eliminate) hazardous products in the kitchen is becoming easier and easier with the increasing number of environmental friendly companies. Companies like Seventh Generation make all kinds of cleansers and detergents that are effective in getting things clean but will not harm anyone. These products might cost a little bit more, especially since the best Read the rest of this entry

Tips in Finding and Working With a Kitchen Remodeler

Descending Into The Kitchen

Do you need a kitchen remodeler? You definitely do if you plan to change a major aspect of your kitchen. Not having a remodeling expert is simply not an option because the kitchen is one of those places you cannot manage redoing yourself. Here are some important tips in looking for and working with a remodeling company.

Look in the Right Places

There are so many remodeling contractors. It’s hard to figure out which ones have the best services at the right prices. You can’t just pick one from directories. You have to be sure that your company is reputable and can get the job done well. The key is to look in the right places for a remodeling outfit.

- The most basic source of a good kitchen professional is to ask for recommendations. You can ask from your friends or expert forum sites. You can also spend some time reading company reviews to get an idea on which companies are highly recommended.

- There are service sites that create directories for remodeling companies. Some of these sites will only have companies that they have already carefully screened and considered. It is a good idea to pick a kitchen remodeler from one of these sites. You are at least assured that you have a fairly reputable and excellent company.

- Other sites specialize in project bidding. You can provide these sites with details about what you want. Member remodeling companies can then bid for Read the rest of this entry

Kitchen Bult Ins and Storage for Kitchen Remodeling

soul kitchen

One of the most underutilized spaces in any kitchen is the area between the ceiling and the tops of your kitchen cabinets. This space can be an ideal area for storing pots, pans and large serving dishes. Don’t overlook the obvious when planning spaces for kitchen storage.

You can also use this space for collectables, display baskets or houseplants. Many kitchen remodel designs do not use this valuable storage space. You can easily add storage boxes that fit in with the design of your kitchen. Sometimes it pays to go against the trend in design.

Make as many boxes as needed out of ¾ veneer plywood. You can also stain or finish the boxes so they will match the rest of your kitchen décor. Build the boxes so they butt up against each other. Cover any exposed plywood sections with accented molding. The edges of the plywood can be accented with simple veneer tape which can be purchased at any home supply center. The tape can be ironed on for a simple installation.

Another remodeling idea is to create a shallow pantry storage area between the wall studs. Any working kitchen can always use extra storage for items such as spices, or small appliances.

Create this pantry in an area between two wall studs. Make sure this space is free from pipes, electrical switches, or wall outlets. You may want to line the back of this pantry area with sheet rock or plywood. Decide which will work best for your kitchen.

Keeping your kitchen clean – Part 3

kitchen

Kitchens are often the central point of a household for they endure constant foot traffic, cooking and eating of multiple meals and assorted tasks throughout each day. Keeping the kitchen clean is essential to a pleasant and healthy home, so adding a few simple steps to your daily routine will keep the kitchen sparkling between deep cleanings.

Organize

You know the old adage: a place for everything and everything in its place. The first step to clean kitchen maintenance is to find the kitchen beyond the clutter.

Designate areas in your cabinets for cookbooks, utensils and seldom used appliances. Not only does less counter clutter make cleaning easier, but also it leaves more workspace for cooking. Employ a “junk drawer” in the area to keep all of the miscellaneous items that collect around the kitchen, i.e. rubber bands, coupons, pens.

During seasonal cleaning, or when time permits, sort through kitchen contents to rid of items no longer needed or wanted. Donate the appliance that has done nothing but collect dust for the last two years. Recycle that collection of plastic bags and throw away the odd ends pushed into the rear corners of cupboards. Getting rid of so many items may feel difficult, but it cannot compete with the rewards of more space and simple living.

Dishes

Keeping up with dirty dishes is usually the hardest part of keeping the kitchen clean; therefore, a routine for washing dishes is crucial. Washing dishes immediately after each Read the rest of this entry
