Should I Replace My Kitchen Cabinets Or Just The Cabinet Doors?

We live in a 100 year old house (and the kitchen cabinets look it). We are planning on selling in a few months and want to update the kitchen. Should we replace the cabinets or just the doors? BTW it’s a small kitchen – it’s an L shape 5 feet x 6 feet.

Replace everything. You’ll get your money back when you sell the house. Most people want updated kitchens.
Edit: New-home construction is slowing down and there are a lot of cabinet makers begging for work right now. I know, I have a family member that’s having a hard time making a 40-hour week that has over 30 years in home construction. You could possibly find someone in your area that would build you a very nice new kitchen. Also, if you decide to replace “everything”, you’ll be able to see if anything under or behind the cabinets needs repair or replacement. That could save you money “down the road”.
Dont listen to that SPAMMING Advertiser for those cheap Chinese cabinets that are toxic to your families health.
Your kitchen is small enough so will not be expensive to buy. What’s new doors going to do? That’s like putting on a newly pressed suit on a man who is wearing dirty underwear and sneakers.
You have to buy intelligent though. Buying from the big orange or the big blue who only wants your big green is not intelligent. They charge full list price. You would not pay full list price/sticker price/MSRP for your new car so why pay it for cabinets.
Every city has wholesale showrooms. You will see the magic words: 35 to 50% off list price. If your local store does not advertise this then run away. In this economic depression almost everyone is selling for under list price.
You can buy an inexpensive ktichen that size with granite tops for less then $4000 if you dont demand all wood construction and all kinds of goodies. A buyer for your home dont care about goodies or that the side panel is particle board, they only see brand new cabinets. And like the other person said, you will get your money back for a kitchen purchase.
The woman always makes the decision among the couple to purchase that house or not, And the kitchen makes that decision. And with 10 million homes on the market right now, dont you want to stand out? If there were 10 homes for sale exactly like yours all simularly priced, and only yours had a new kitchen……which one do you think the buyers will chose?
I agree with your opinion, after replace the old kitchen cabient, the whole building will have a good sales price.
whether need to change the kitchen cabinet or cabinet door is up to the structure (carcase) is still ok or not.
if the cabinet structure(carcase) is still ok, I think change the cabinet door is enough,
if the cabinet structure(carcase) have broken or have abrasion, I think change the whole kitchen cabinet is necessary,
BTW, if you don’t wanp pay much money on rebuild your kitchen cabinet, I think only change the cabinet door is best choice.

as the kitchen cabinet manufacture like us in china, Most of customer need us cost down per order,,,, they don’t discount their sales price, only want us cost down.
I think everyone should know , the materials cost and the manufacture technique…the buyer to china. only looking for the cheapest price and seems like good the kitchen cabinet. they don’t mind the what’s the kind materials the cabinet used ,,,,so if most of buyer have the same opinon like this,,,, you will never seen the real chinese kitchen cabinet…
Don’t say “no” to all of chinese kitchen cabinet manufactory, it will hurt the professional maker like us,,,,
parts of our customer take our kitchen cabinet as the highest level sales in US market,,,there is the high profit for them. but we only get a very little charge per each order, We must pay much more money in continuou increase in price of the materials market and the machine and the whole factory good operation normally
