Are kitchen islands a necessity or a convenience?
Kitchen islands help to make for a great kitchen. However, they aren’t necessary, just very convenient. There are lots of advantages to a good kitchen island and the best of kitchens often have them. Many of us get along fine without kitchen islands, or even adequate counter space, work space, storage space, and such. A great kitchen is sure to have lots of all of the above and still be able to move around nicely, but it takes a large space to create a great kitchen.
Easy to Use.
Kitchen islands add to the ease of use in the kitchen. Whether that’s where the sink is or if that is the stove. It can also just be extra counter space. In a kitchen there never seems to be enough counter space and with the kitchen island you get extra counter space which makes it easy to use.
In Kitchen Eating.
You can use an island as a place for in kitchen eating. Or you can have a breakfast bar and use your kitchen island for other things. This is a great opportunity to have a place for eating in. Eating in the kitchen is good for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and while someone is working. You can also use it as a place to talk to the cook, to do a small amount of paperwork, or to sit down and work on something such as a decorative salad.
Best Use of Space.
An island is the best use of space if you have enough space for it. If you don’t then it is better not to have it, however if the space is there this is the best use for it. You are expanding storage, providing a place to sit, and gaining valuable counter space. This is very important for an easy to use kitchen.
Often we find ourselves without the needed space to easily make a project. It takes work, and effort to make it happen. However, with a kitchen island we have a very convenient kitchen. It is true that we can make due without, after all some of us make due with very tiny and poorly equipped kitchens. There is nothing nicer then an easy to use and well equipped kitchen though. It makes all of life seem easier. This item is one of the convenient items that many wish they could have even though they don’t. However, life goes on without it and it all works out in the end. If you have the space, the money, and you use your kitchen regularly then you should probably get this great convenience item.

I loved this post — I never used to know the importance and convenience of having a kitchen island until we remodeled and got one put in. WOW! It definitely made a huge difference! Even though it took up room, it ended up creating room in the kitchen. I definitely agree with your ending statement!
