The trend in refacing, refinishing and resurfacing has taken the kitchen make-over market by storm in recent years. Popular with the consumer mainly because of the vast savings they can make compared with installing a whole new kitchen.

The very idea of a new kitchen is enough to send husbands scurrying for the nearest exit, thinking of the time, upheaval and especially the money involved in such a project.

All he can see in his mind’s eye is a house turned upside down with kitchen items strewn over the living area, stumbling over tradesman’s tools and a kitchen that is off limits.

A new kitchen may be desirable, but often the cost is not.

Is it possible to create a new kitchen without the upheaval and for a fraction of the regular cost?

The answer is to go down the route of kitchen re-facing, refinishing or resurfacing. This is an option that basically allows you to keep the bulk of your kitchen intact, replacing only the exterior doors and finishes.

You have to wonder why some will go to the extent of tearing out a whole kitchen when a refacing job would be perfectly adequate and look just the same.

The trend toward the superficial kitchen makeover has resulted in massive savings financially and less disruption in the kitchen area.

Assuming your base units and cabinets are in reasonable condition, it is then a matter of choosing styles and colors for the new face of your kitchen.

As with complete kitchens, you have a fabulous choice of refacing schemes to choose from. If desired, you can change the style and color completely giving you a brand new kitchen to all intents and purposes.

This is also an opportunity to upgrade door handles and trims if you prefer a different style. Some of the money you save, and it will be substantial, could be used to replace other fixtures and fittings around the kitchen and even pay for redecorating.

A major benefit of the refacing route, apart from the cash saving, is that your kitchen is still functional. Replacing the entire kitchen, lock, stock and barrel, usually results in tremendous upheaval with the contents of the kitchen in another room and tools and dust everywhere.

Refacing is a cleaner, quicker and cheaper method of installing a new kitchen. You may still have the old base units and wall cabinets, but in the eyes of your visitors, you have a brand new kitchen.
