1936 Yellow Armstrong Kitchen with Geraniums

White distilled vinegar is a great green way to keep the kitchen sparkling clean. Because of it’s high acidity level it is effective in killing most mold, bacteria and germs. It is a way to avoid harsh chemicals and can use as a base in many different ways. It is a fairly inexpensive method of cleaning as well.

~Creamy Scouring Cleanser

This creamy scoring cleanser can help with all sorts of spills and splatters. Take 1/4 cup baking soda, 1 tablespoon of liquid dish detergent and then just enough white distilled vinegar to make the texture smooth and creamy.

~The Stove

Vinegar is a great way to dissolve grease and spills in the oven. Put the white distilled vinegar in a spray bottle and saturate the door, walls and floor of the oven. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes and wipe out the grease and grime.

~The Microwave

This is a great little trick for all those microwave splatters. Put 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar in a microwave safe bowl. Bring it to a rolling bowl and then allow it it sit for five minutes. Baked on splatters should be easy to wipe clean and all the odors will be gone.

~The Dishwasher

Pour 1 cup of vinegar in the bottom of the empty machine. Run it through a complete cycle and the residue will dissipate and the smells will be gone.

~The Chrome

To eliminate those hard water spots and lime build up here is the secret. Make a paste with 1 tablespoon of vinegar and 2 tablespoons of salt. Use this paste to remove the build up.

~The Refrigerator

Use a 50/50 solution of white distilled vinegar and water to wash the shelves and walls of the refrigerator. To tackle the grime on top you may want to soak a cloth in straight vinegar and lay it on top for about 10 minutes and then wipe down.

~The Tea Kettle

Tea kettles are notorious for build up on the inside. If it just a regular cleaning add 1/2 vinegar and let sit over night. Rinse in the morning and wipe out the kettle. If it has been neglected for awhile boil the vinegar straight and then wipe out and rinse the tea kettle.

~The Garbage Disposal

This is the best way to clean the garbage disposal bar none. Freeze straight white distilled vinegar into ice cubes. Drop three vinegar ice cubes in the disposal, run cold water and turn in on. Easy and effective is what you clearly have accomplished.

~Coffee and tea stains

Cups that are stained by coffee and tea can be cleaned with a paste of baking soda and vinegar or some of the creamy scouring cleanser.

So go the market and pick up a few gallons of white distilled vinegar and give green cleaning a try.
