Organize your kitchen by clearing the clutter – Part 4

The kitchen is probably the number one room in the house, and that’s exactly why it should be kept tidy and organized. Kitchen clutter can dramatically slow down food preparation and efficiency, while it can also pose dangerous risks. Clean up your kitchen clutter and see what an organized kitchen can do for you.
KEEP RECIPES TOGETHER
Make a recipe notebook or have a little box in which to keep loose-leaf recipes. Organize and categorize them and paperclip recipes which share the same category. This protects your recipes from probable loss, and you’ll always know where to find them.
UTENSILS IN A JAR
Purchase a large jar or vase with a mouth wide enough for many of your daily-used wooden spoons, metal spoons, etc., to fit into. Don’t cram in too many; just include those which you are sure to use everyday. This gives you easy access without having to open all the drawers to find the right spoon. Place the utensils with the handles in the jar.
LABELS MAKE PERFECT
You can label your kitchen drawers discreetly. Cut out pieces of paper (they can be white or colored to try to match the color of your cabinetry) that are big enough for you to see the writing (about 1/2 inch or so and about four or five inches long). Write in large, capital letters what is in the drawer. Use invisible tape and tape on the middle or on the corner of the drawer. You won’t have to spend precious minutes looking for certain kitchen gadgets or utensils. Do the same thing for your pantry by organizing your boxed and non-perishable items into certain categories (such as pastas, rice, and beans, or breakfast items).
MINIMIZE THE COUNTERTOP APPLIANCES
Don’t clutter your kitchen counters with too many appliances. They’re bothersome and they can present dangers in certain conditions. Put away the ones you rarely use in a corner cabinet or on an extra shelf in your pantry.
TOWELS, CLOTHS
Keep kitchen towels, cloths, mittens, gloves, etc., in a specific drawer, preferably the ones closest to the sink. You should also keep your extra brillo pads or scourers in one of these drawers as well.
CLEANERS
Keep cleaners in the cabinets right under your kitchen sink. Have locks handy if you have small children. This allows easy access when you need dishwashing soap, or if you just need to clean your countertops.
PUT AWAY THOSE DISHES
You can put your just-washed dishes on a dish tray, or you can leave them to dry in the dishwasher. In any case, always put them away after they’re dry so that you have more room for the next batch. Just putting them away leaves your kitchen looking a lot less cluttered.
So, with these tips in mind, organizing your kitchen should be a breeze. It takes a little time, but it’s well worth the effort when you’re finished and see how uncluttered your kitchen is.
