This is really a loaded question…
Costs can vary as much as they do when buying a car. A granite countertop can cost as much as some people pay for their whole kitchen – $3000 to $5000
Before you spend a lot of time on refacing – compare costs to a new kitchen. Sometimes there is not much difference – it depends on the cabinet door styles etc. But do shop around and check first. I got a new client who had spent $3400 on a refacing project only to find out later that a new kitchen would only have cost another $800.
A minimum price for a basic kitchen with laminate countertops will probably run you around $4000 to $5000 installed. The prices generally go up from this price range and the sky is the limit. Some European kitchens can cost $50K to $75K
If you are on a budget, set a target price of $4500 and start shopping around. Don’t exclude custom shops, they are not always more expensive than outlets like Home Depot and may be able to offer a few custom features (subject to price)
Don’t assume that a higher priced kitchen is better. Take a good look at construction and material finishes, hardware and drawer tracks.
One item many small custom shops can provide is Accuride full extension drawer glides – an average kitchen will cost no more than $150 to $250 for this upgrade. Cabinet shops seldom pay more than $10 to $12 a pair for these, and they make a HUGE difference in the life of drawers and the convience of being able to open drawers all the way ) great for access to the back part of the drawer. This little feature can make a $4500 kitchen feel like a $7000 kitchen.
Make sure any kitchen you buy comes with a warranty that covers door warping and drawer assembly – the most common part of a kitchen to fail first.
If by refacing cabinets, you mean sanding and painting them, that along could cost as much as $1,200.00.On floors, are you talking about installing tile? Some of this work you could possibly do yourself and save a bundle of money. I would need more info to help you.
I am doing the same. Countertops can be done cheaper than the rest. (aside from paint) I have heard anywhere from 5-13k. That is the cheapest. Seriously, go to Home Depot or something and they can give you a free estimate (if you measure your kitchen) Cabinets are the most expensive. People who live in “rich” area’s actually change out their cabnets often and sell them. I would look into that.
Good luck..it is a project from hell
This is a wide open question. I would suggest for an average size kitchen you should expect to pay 7500.00 to 13000.00. I know it sounds high. But for an example, a 150 square foot tiled floor with cement underlayment will run about 1200.00 to 1500.00 alone.
good luck.
It all depends on the amount of work you want to do and how extensive a reface do you want. Paint and countertops alone (if you can do it yourself) can be very cost effective, maybe around $500 for a smaller kitchen. You can consider sanding the cabinet faces and painting them which is cheaper than a major re-face.
The best bet for your cost, would be for you to price materials you want at your local home improvement store (Lowes, Home Depot) or try your local Habitat ReStore. If you want a professional to do the work talk to the kitchen pro at the Lowes or Home Depot, they are happy to help. There are a lot of options, cheap all the way to expensive so a lot of the costs can be controled by you.
If you are on a tight budget, do as much of the work yourself, if possible. Sears can give you an estimate on refacing the cabinets and they always send coupons to homeowners for cabinet refacing. Places like Home Depot can give you estimates on installing the flooring. We installed our flooring ourselves, stained the cabinets, painted, now we’re going to install granite countertops. Home Depot granite countertops run about $67.00 lin ft. installed. Check around and get the best prices. Do alot of the demo yourself and you can save alot of labor.
