I would love to get new cabinets but money is tight. The cabinet insides are made of “presswood” and they are flaking off. What can I do about this. Is there some sort of veneer etc I could cut and glue on the insides. Also the outside are dark wood. would you paint them or sand and re- stain. If so what kind of paint do I use.

1/4 ” Plywood or veneer will work on the inside I would primer and paint first cut to fit nail/glue each piece then caulk and touch up paint. The ends that you see is the only place you’ll need a piece of transition molding. Many kinds that will work just look until you find something that will work. The out side will need a cover stain prior to painting . Cover stain is a primer that’s lacquer based that will seal any stain. Good Luck
