Kitchen Cabinets Refacing:refinish Or Reface And Color Choice?

I have knotty pine wood cabinets in solid wood. I hate the knotty pine so I would like to have it painted white. Should I have barrel hinges in nickel or white with matching color knobs? I have a contemporary / traditional decor.
Also, is external hinges for kitchen cabinets passe? I won’t be able to convert it to concealed hinges so do you think it would be better to splurge and get a reface and have concealed hinges or is it not a big deal to have them.

I avoid choosing hardware for clients. It is personal preference. Try a couple doors with different looks. I believe hardware can add to the appearance of casework; some people want flat & smooth. The cost of converting existing to concealed euro hinges can be costly. There are inset/ overlay/ bevel & 3/8″ lip doors and the hinges correspond to each. Quality among hinges varies widely. A complicated task to answer in an e-mail.
