Best Color For Kitchen Walls, With Pink Tile? For A Guys Kitchen. No $$$?
Ok, first of all I have a small kitchen and a small budget. My house is very old and the last time the kitchen was remodeled looks like some time in the 50-60s. I just bought stainless steel appliances for the kitchen, to replace the non-working olive green 70s era ones, so there is like no money left. The cabnets are painted white, which are fine for now. The counter top is white with pink flake in the design, eww! The backsplash is all bright pink tiles. The walls are yellow. Since it will be a few years before I can remodel, and this is my first home, I would like any suggestion of a masculine color to paint the wall the would maybe make it not so bad. I was thinking a chocolate brown? Any inputs? A $20 gallon of paint has got to be better than this ugly color scheme. Thanks for any help

You have a small kitchen which probably means very little countertops. REPLACE THEM don’t try matching or coordinating something you don’t like. Give me a break masculine color to match pink backsplash. Home Depot has laminate countertops for less than 10 dollars per linear foot , which would be less than 100 dollars in your case, if you do it yourself and its very easy. The backsplashes could be covered in beadboard and painted white to match cabinets or another color for less than 20 dollars. You could also retile the backsplashes with tumbled marble or slate at 5.00 per foot or less than 100 although this would require a little more handiness but nothing that you couldn’t learn
Don’t waste your time doing it piecemeal, save your money and do it right the first time ,,,,, BUT DO IT YOURSELF

Don’t even try 2 part epoxy paints, if you don’t have good spray equipment you will end up with an orange peel finish using a roller, it won’t last for more than a year without peeling anyway. Never recomended for countertops or food surfaces anyway
Well, replacing that tile is a major expence, and yeah, a major pain.
Auk! The only color that I’ve seen that goes well with pink is ……. BLACK !
That will make the room look darker. See how much wall space the cabinets cover. You might want to go with black and white. Leave the ceiling white to reflect light.
btw Good choice on appliances. SS never goes out of style.
Good choice on deciding to paint. Paint is going to give you the biggest bang for your buck. It sounds like you’ve got quite a challenge with your kitchen, but you seem to be quite creative in thinking of doing what you can!
Your idea of chocolate brown would be good. One thing to look at is the amount of light in your kitchen. Dark colors will absorb light, so keep that in mind when choosing the shade.
Another suggestion I would make is considering a nice grey color for your walls. Since you have stainless steel and pink to deal with, this would make a great compliment. It would look masculine, and you could use black and grey nicely as accents.
Grey is a new trendy decorating color. You will begin to see it everywhere. Remember you can buy very inexpensive hotpads and hand towels for your kitchen to add in color also. Maybe purchase some inexpensive canisters for the countertop in stainless steel.

I agree with the brown. I’m a gal, and *I* don’t like pink that much!
You’ll want to use a good sealant or varnish on the counter tops too, so the paint won’t leach into you food.
As for the tile, you might want to just remove that and either refinish the wall or install a new backsplash.

Though the brown sounds great you will get tired of it pretty quick. It will make the space feel closed in and claustrophobic – unless you have a large kitchen with a lot of windows.
Paint the ceramic tile in a great color – beige/white/black. Here’s how but before we get into this you need to understand that adhesion is not the problem, you have to keep in mind that the finished product is only as durable as the paint film itself.
Your car has one of the toughest finishes available but you would not go sliding a can of green beans across the hood without expecting some major damage. Expect the same results from the paint on your countertop or ceramic tile.
Now if you excersize a little care and common sense, the finish will give you years of satisfactory service. Use your cutting board, avoid harsh cleansers, a coat of paste wax once a year or so will do wonders for protecting your finish.
First, wash the surface to with a 50/50 solution of household ammonia and water to remove grease from kitchen walls. I also recommend you wash with a mild acid solution which is used to clean ceramic tile of excessive grout. This can be found in the tile section of most home centers. Rinse well with plain water, and let the surface dry thoroughly.
Next, prime it with a high-quality adhesion-promoting primer like Zinsser’s latex-based Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer-Sealer. Bulls Eye 1-2-3 adheres tenaciously to ceramic tile, glass, and other hard-to-stick-to materials. The primer provides an “anchor” for the topcoat so it can’t be rubbed, chipped or scraped off easily.
Use BIN an alcohol base primer for maximum durability.
Follow the primer with one or two coats of a high-quality finish paint. In moisture-prone areas alkyd (oil base) finishes are preferred, as they provide a harder finish than water-base paints and are more washable and durable. There are also several epoxy coatings that are excellent for durability, check with your local paint store for availability.
If you want to paint the grout a contrasting color, you can go back over it with an artist’s brush.
Your finished project will be fully cured in appx 2-3 weeks and you should avoid harsh abrasive cleaning agents.
This shouldn’t cost over $50.00 and will be well worth the money spent. Then you can paint the walls whatever color you like!

Dude come on! spend your 20 bucks on a door slab nail it up over the kitchen entrance along with some crime seen tape and EAT OUT. When you have the money do it right.
Or if your comming out of the closet I would sudgest pink bunny slippers to match
My 1st thought was brown also and isn’t there a tile paint out there, I’m sure I’ve heard of one, let’s face it anything is better than the pink Good luck
Gray.
It will coordinate with the stainless steel appliances. Being that the kitchen is small, go with a lighter tone of gray, and nothing that leans to the green side.
See Sherwin Williams “Gray Matters”, or any tone from that strip “K”. Also something to consider is a stencil on top of that paint in a metallic silver paint, maybe wall words or a border.

i think the choclate brown is a bright idear and it goes with pink you got a good eye for decorating use it on the rest of the house.
I actually like the brown idea but something a little bit softer would be better. Maybe like a light leather color if that makes sense. If you go chocolate brown in a kitchen it will just look too small and closet like. A softer brown will make it warm and inviting without looking overly feminine. And I wouldn’t change the pink at all. Don’t you know, real men DO wear pink! I have always found pink to just be a sexy, warm color. And…if there are people out there that say otherwise, they are probably too afraid to admit they have a softer side too.
