A functional and a well designed kitchen is part of every dream house that humans want today. Whatever the reason that you want your cooking area to be renovated redesign it with keeping other people in mind. The kitchen appliances and equipment make a crucial part of your decision. Entertaining guests and having a family time together would be immaterial without a well built kitchen. One of the must visit places which will help you make the choice simpler is the Toronto appliances. The culinary skills of a chef or a homeowner come to a standstill without a functional and well designed kitchen. Avoid these major pitfalls before renovating the kitchen area or building one in the first place.

From my experience, all my friends have placed a lot of emphasis on the kitchen triangle; however it didn’t work for me as with a spacious kitchen it seemed like a waste of space. With kids around there had to be better organization than the traditional kitchen triangle. Instead shift your focus on the appliances and fixtures and build work stations revolving it. The work stations work wonders in the kitchen compared to the triangle. A well built kitchen reflects a lot on the personality of the person. So having a well designed kitchen is an asset today for a Read the rest of this entry

Organize your kitchen by clearing the clutter – Part 30

kitchen canisters

Clutter can be the downfall of any well-run house. Not only is it overwhelming to the mind, but clutter can give the impression of “dirty” to even the cleanest home. It is also a big time-killer. In the United States, each person loses approximately untold hours simply trying to find things. I’ve found a somewhat complex way of organizing my house. I will not share that lengthy process here today. I’m simply going to share a few tips for removing clutter from a kitchen.

1. Knick-knacks are great! But they’re only great in moderation. If you find that they collect dust faster than you can clean them; or that you have no room on your counters for the completion of normal kitchen tasks, then they need to go. I suggest a garage sale or joining your local Free-Cycle group as a way of sharing you wealth and removing clutter from your kitchen.

2. Plants are great! However if the vines from your spider plant are dropping their sprouts and dirt all over the counters or you can’t see through the window, trim them up or move some to another part of the house.

3. Utensils are great (and necessary)! One container sitting next to the cooking area is perfect. Or perhaps hang your utensils above your stove. Utensils thrown together in various drawers or even one over-crowded drawer is a time-waster.

4. Streamline, streamline, streamline! I can’t stress this enough. As a former waitress, cook and currently the owner of a Read the rest of this entry

Decorative Lighting, a Kitchen Improvement Without the Expense

Country kitchen

Decorative lighting, can be a way for you to drastically change the look and mood of your kitchen, without breaking the bank.

If you kitchen is looking a bit dark and dingy, but you don’t have the money for a complete facelift, then why not give it a partial facelift?

Start by giving your cabinets a good clean. Making sure to use the proper cleaner. If you have wood cabinets, use a soap or cleaner that is designed for wood paneling etc, and if you have melamine cabinets, make sure to use a product that will help degrease.

Then clear all the clutter away from your counters. This is a big turn off for a sleek looking kitchen. You should try and find a place for odds and ends, or at least purchase a decorative basket for the end of your counter for all those paper clips, keys, papers etc that tend to collect on your counter.

Next look at your cabinet hardware. Is it dated?.. boring?. Step it up a bit with some new hardware, and then look at decorative lighting. You will be amazed at the difference a change in lighting can make.

Maybe go for a new hanging pendant light over your table or island. Or a new, yet traditional chandelier?.. or maybe some track lighting. Or if you have an Victorian look to your kitchen, find a old style fixture and Read the rest of this entry

Organize your kitchen by clearing the clutter – Part 26

Kitchen Set Minimalis, Kitchen Set Modern, Kumpulan Denah Layout Kitchen Set

The first step to de-cluttering your kitchen is deciding what to really keep. Start by cutting down on your electrical appliances. With so many new gadgets coming out, many people simply have too much stuff in their kitchens. If you have not used items fairly recently, give them to friends or donate them to charity.

For example, if you have a bread machine but you always buy bread, you don’t need the machine. If you have a waffle iron but your life style is too busy to ever make any at home, get rid off it. If you have several types of mixers, choppers, blenders, and processors decide which one combines the most functions. That is the only one you may want to keep. If you feel guilty giving something away because it was a gift, just ask yourself: How would the person feel knowing he or she gave you something that you never used?

Once you have cut down on the appliances, go through your dishes. Get rid off everything that does not match. Keep one set of plain everyday dishes, and one set for entertaining. Don’t keep the dishes that you use for special occasions in your kitchen. If you have a hutch or china cabinet in your dining room, store them in there. You can even keep those dishes boxed up in a closet, since you don’t use them often.

The same goes for flatware. Read the rest of this entry

Organize your kitchen by clearing the clutter – Part 20

Another 50s Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house and the hardest to keep clean. By clearing the clutter and organizing your kitchen, you can simplify your cooking and cut cleaning time in half.

Before organizing your kitchen, you should empty all your cabinets and drawers. Then wipe them clean.

Almost all of the clutter we have in our houses exists because it does not have a designated home. For this reason, there should be a place for everything, and everything should be in its place.

When organizing, the items that you use most, should be in a convenient location that is easy to get to. For example, place cooking utensils and cookware near the stove. Keep plates and other dishes on a low shelf, and place the coffee maker near the cabinet containing the coffee and/or coffee cups.

Make a special effort to organize your plastic containers. Be sure that each container has a lid and vice versa. If a container or lid does not have a partner, throw it away. Then come up with a system to stack and store your containers that makes them easily accessible and neat.

Be sure to organize like-items together. For example, put all cookware together, but separate cookware from bake ware. Within each cabinet and drawer, make it your goal to find things without pushing items aside. If you cannot do this, Read the rest of this entry

Tips for keeping your kitchen clean when you cook – Part 4

kitchen

Nobody likes a dirty kitchen, and a dirty kitchen is no fun to cook in either (not to mention unsanitary). With a little conscious effort, you can keep your kitchen clean while you cook. Here are FIVE TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR KITCHEN CLEAN WHILE YOU COOK:

1) START WITH A SPOTLESS KITCHEN: If your kitchen is a mess, don’t start cooking yet. Clean it first. This includes removing clutter, taking out the trash, putting in a fresh trash bag, and wiping your kitchen down with an anti-bacterial cleaner. Also, don’t start cooking until you have put away all the dishes. That way, when you are done cooking, the only dishes you will have to clean are the ones you used to prepare your most recent meal.

2) GATHER YOUR INGREDIENTS: Don’t start cooking until you know what you are going to make. This will prevent you from getting out unnecessary ingredients. Gather all your ingredients, and place them on your counter.

3) CLEAN AS YOU GO: Although cleaning while cooking will slow down the process of preparing your meal, it really is a time saver in the long run. If you spill something, clean up the mess before you continue cooking. Even if another person in your household is responsible for dish duty, offer to let them clean the cooking pots and pans as you go. At the very least, start soaking pots in hot soapy water in the sink to prevent the Read the rest of this entry

Tips for keeping your kitchen clean when you cook

gollum's kitchen

A kitchen is both one of the dirtiest areas of the house and one of the two areas, along with the bathroom, which we must keep clean for our health’s sake. Here are some of the tips to help keep the kitchen clean during the preparation of food.

A kitchen is for food preparation. Try to keep the kids and everyone other than cook out of the kitchen, especially at cooking time, but at other times also. If possible, arrange traffic patterns around the kitchen not through it. The kitchen floor is hard to keep clean when the only thing you do in the room is cook. Letting the kids use it to change from boots to shoes adds mud to the equation.

A kitchen table is for eating. It is not a good place for homework and bill paying. For one thing, homework and bills will always get left (and lost) in the kitchen area. Or soiled. Or both. Keep the kitchen empty except for cooking.

Now for the arrangement of the kitchen. Keep track of the utensil you use most and where you use them. Stove utensil you use all the time should be near the stove or hung near them, perhaps on peg board or from a utensil rack from the ceiling. Utensils used rarely can be stored in drawers.

In general, keep things you use everyday right at hand. Need to pack lunch for the spouse or the kids? Keep baggies, twisties, marker and paper lunch bags in the Read the rest of this entry
