I’m moving into a new condo. Long story short, it’s owned by my boyfriend’s uncle…. so he’s giving me all of the furniture that’s in there. It’s a very small one-bedroom.
I wish I had a picture, but I don’t. It’s got white walls, white carpet, white ceilings, and black furniture. Black leather sofa, black tv stand, black dining room chairs, black stools, black oriental-inspired dresser, and a black bedframe with a semi-circle headboard. The coffee table is a rectangular piece of glass over a really awesome panther-sculpture. The panther’s shoulders and hips hold up the table.
The only splash of color is the cabinets in the kitchen that have been painted a bright turquoise. The condo is much more modern than my tastes, but I’m willing to work with it. The only problem is…. I’m not completely satisfied with the way it looks just yet. I hate having so much white and black in a small space. I like the contrast, but it’s too overwhelming. Another issue is my furniture I’m bringing with me is mostly earth colors like brown and beige.
Any ideas how I could make this work? Suggestions for painting the wall another color? Or possibly the cabinets? I’m fine with turquoise but if there’s another color that works better I’m willing to give it a try.
Thanks!

I love bright colors. I want to paint my kitchen bright green. Kind of a lighter bright green…almost like the yahoo answers bars, haha!
The problem is I don’t know how to transition to the living room and hallway which attach to the kitchen. I don’t want the entire house bright green…though I do love a bright, beachy, fun look all over the house. I need suggestions of how to make the whole house look good and bright and fun but not overwhelming. The kitchen is the biggest room in our small ranch style home.
Help please!?! Pictures would really help me too~
I’m painting myself and plan on making a home depot trip today or tomorrow.
Thanks for the help!

Interior Design Ideas For Kitchen?

Hi- We bought a new house and we are currently decorating.
I have a long, quite bright and airy kitchen. It has a pine floor and pine cabinets with black surfaces and off white small tiles.
This would not have been a look I would have chosen, but we can’t afford to re-do the kitchen, so we have to make it work.
We have quite a lot of Black kitchenware, which obv goes with the surfaces, but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what colour to paint the kitchen to make it tie in more? Other than white, I’m not sure which colour to paint the largest wall.
Many thanks.

Lounge 6mx3.2m with central arch, adjoins kitchen 5mx3.2m which adjoins family room 7m x 4m via a central opening. The two openings form a thoroughfare through the kitchen. I want them to work bette/link together, remove clutter, with some design and colour advice and furniture positioning suggestions. Lounges faces due west, family room faces due east and the kitchen has no window except for a small opening into the family room It is dark and the only other light it gets is from the two openings. The passage to the bedrooms runs off the kitchen and the laundry backs on to it also. Do I open up the wall between the kitchen and family room, move the sink and put a window in the south wall? or do I completely relocate the kitchen to the other side of the room and maybe incorporate the laundry area in this process? I find when family visit the men sit in the lounge area watching TV, women in the family room with children running back and forth and spreading toys etc. GMT

My kitchen has a glossy white ceramic backsplash. Random tiles have a fruit motif scattered around the backsplash-design appears to be some sort of decal that was applied on top of the tile. I would like to update the kitchen and get rid of these fruit motifs. I have tried Goof-Off, soap, Comet and they do not budge. Does anyone have any other ideas without damaging the tiles–I would like to just have the plain white tiles as I do not want to tear out the tile. Thanks for your suggestions!

I need some ideas on how to design my kitchen and dining. I live in an apartment so they kinda go together. I need something that matches with stainless steel appliances and my dining room table which has amber colored wood, smokey glass and silver legs. Any ideas??

What Backsplash Design And Tile?

Here is a picture of my kitchen. http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/1885/…
It is a very small kitchen….but it’s cozy.
I just replaced all of my 1960’s, rotted cabinets with the ones in the picture. I am a single guy so I am not very good at picking out colors that will go well so I need your help in deciding a backsplash idea. I was thinking white glossy tiles with a counter top matching pattern every so often.
Please keep in mind that I WILL be painting this room and I am open for color suggestions.
I am also going to put 12″ ceramic tile down on the floor. I was thinking of a dark tan/Brown color. Any help would be GREAT! All ideas are welcome even if you do not like mine. I can install everything but coming up with something that matches is SO HARD! Go Figure….
