While many home-owners can push the kitchen renovating bill up and over the $40,000 mark, it is possible to spend half that. According to Money Magazine, the average kitchen can be renovated for less than $20,000.

This includes new counter tops, a new island, a fitted pantry, new lighting, the latest appliances and refurbished cabinets. Many home-owners do not realize that brand new cabinet doors are fairly inexpensive and almost free of labor costs.

Another option is to have your cabinet doors “re-faced”. This entails the removal of your cabinet doors and drawers, a wood veneer is then applied and they are returned to your kitchen.

If spending this $20,000 will, in fact, add an extra $15,000 to the value of your home, then what’s holding you back? To bring your kitchen up to date, Money Magazine suggests that a kitchen island and a pantry are the latest ‘must-haves’ for kitchens.

Unless your home is in the top neighborhood, you will probably not benefit from the high end appliances. However, name brands, warranties, newness and looks all count, but this still keeps you in the medium price range.

A kitchen is for food preparation. Try to keep the kids and everyone other than cook out of the kitchen, especially at cooking time, but at other times also. If possible, arrange traffic patterns around the kitchen not through it. The kitchen floor is hard to keep clean when the only thing you do in the room is cook. Letting the kids use it to change from boots to shoes adds mud to the equation.

A kitchen table is for eating. It is not a good place for homework and bill paying. For one thing, homework and bills will always get left (and lost) in the kitchen area. Or soiled. Or both. Keep the kitchen empty except for cooking.

As a contractor one is constantly looking for a great deal and a way to save a few dollars. If it means a little more work, then that is no problem because your work is part of your own costs and you donâ€™t have to charge your self for time. So when I stumbled upon kitchen cabinets that could be bought and assembled, I realized I could save money. It is simple; I am not paying someone else to assemble the kitchen cabinets.

I was in one of those big box home supply centers and was going to buy my kitchen cabinets the usual way. I already had them loaded onto one of those flat carts when I casually complained to another customer that there has got to be a better way than hauling all these pre-assembled kitchen cabinets around. The other customer said buy them online. Of course I thought it was a joke. Then I was told that the kitchen cabinets get shipped to you, you avoid any store hassles, and the best part is that the cost was 40% less than the big box home center prices. Part of the reason these kitchen cabinets cost less is because they are considered RTA cabinets which stands for ready to assemble cabinets.

So I decided to do a search and see what I could find online. I was floored! There are many choices out there and it was easy. When the kitchen cabinets arrived, I was shocked again. Not only were the kitchen cabinets solid wood, but they did not have one piece of cardboard or particle board. The reason I mentioned this is because the big box stores have solid fronts but very little else in the areas of real wood.

Finally, I thought these cabinets might be a hassle to assemble. The kitchen cabinets were easy to assemble. Each kitchen cabinet came with a single page of directions and needed only a flat head screw driver to put them together. The cabinets with drawers were a little more time consuming and I used my electric drill to make the assemblage go faster, but overall the kitchen cabinets are easy to put together.

Finding an RTA kitchen cabinet store might be difficult in some areas of the country, but if you look online you will be able to find these sites quite easily. There is a shipping cost; however, if you buy enough cabinets the shipping is reduced or actually free. Keep in mind that after I added shipping costs, my overall spending was still a lot less than what I would have spent at a super center.

So the secret to in-expensive kitchen cabinets is to go online and find them yourself. So start searching, it might be a little more effort but it is worth it.

We have all done it, had a kitchen cupboard that doesn’t close and when the dishes from the sink finally make their way to the place of storage the cupboard is full and the kitchen starts to become a storage nightmare. One of the biggest problems that we do is over purchasing, weather its food plates, dishes or cups we all have our own storage mistakes. One way to help stop this problem is not to over purchase, ok bulk buying may be cheaper in the mean time but can you stand having to have a kitchen that has NO space or proper organisation?

Perhaps just stock up on the basics, such as sugar, milk, salt, pepper, and the staple things in your diet to avoid a crammed kitchen storage space. Another problem is the drawers, don’t you just hate it in a kitchen when you open the drawers and they are just an array of mess and clutter! One thing to help you with issue is by having a rule in the home that if it’s not for the kitchen then don’t put it there. I am not sure about your kitchen but in ours I have a nightmare draw that has paper, pens, keys, pieces of crap that really don’t need to be there and could probably be in the bin.

If this simple rule is followed then the kitchen shouldn’t end up packed full of rubbish that’s not useful. Another piece of useful advice is to perhaps not have a vegetable rack! as absurd as it seems how many of us really need to have a vegetable rack in many homes they are just for show, potatoes can sit in a basket on the worktop along with onions and garlic and there is just no need to have a rack down on the floor that’s in the way and taking up extra space.

Another bad mistake that many of you reading this article will be guilty of is to have the kitchen bin on the floor, a great place to have the bin is hidden away inside the cupboard under the sink- let’s face it the cupboard under the sink is not the most hygienic place in your kitchen to store things and it could need to be accessed at anytime by a plumber if the sink should ever block up. Perhaps just keeping your cleaning items and waste bin under the sink will make your kitchen larger and more clutter free. Who likes mess and clutter! Buy less have more space and clean and tidy as the mess is there, very soon your kitchen will be mess free and you can be proud of it. Next time when the guests come around you wont have to keep the kitchen door closed it can be one of the rooms in the house that you can be proud to show off.
