For my design project, I’m designing a U-shaped kitchen. I plan to put a island in the middle. The island is 2×3 feet. The distance from counter to island is 3 feet(36 inches) on 3 sides. Do you think this would be too tight? I can’t make the space bigger without making the island smaller(can’t move the walls).

Besides being stain-resistant and water-resistant, kitchen tiles are indeed a visual treat what with their alluring mix of colours and patterns and of course shine. So much so, that some women who work their end up doing a quick make-up by looking at their reflections! What is more, they are available in small sizes, enabling you to create those seemingly mesmerising patterns. Choosing the right tiles for your kitchen is undoubtedly a critical decision. Here are some insights for you -
- Kitchen is one area that endures all spills, stains, knocking of pots and pans, etc. and hence needs to have strong and tough surroundings. This means that glass tiles are not the right choice, except may be as accents. This factor needs to be kept in mind while making the decision.
- Again, go in for those tiles that are easy to clean as well as maintain for the backsplash area for the kitchen. As this is where the maximum damage is done. Further, the tiles need to inject a sense of character to the kitchen as well.
- Kitchen tiles catch the eye of the most novices of persons. It is thus imperative to lend it a very attractive and feel good look aE” the visual impact should be such that both the cooks as well as the other family members who are going to enjoy the dishes made their feel comfortable using it. Feature tiles, borders and pattern designs to lend individuality are ideal choices here.
- Backsplash is the area that catches most of the spills of day-to-day cooking, so make sure that the tiles you use for the same are easy to clean as well as maintain. At the same time, they should impart a bit of characters to the kitchen.
- For countertops, again, the requirement is that the tiles be heat-resistant, non-porous and durable and easy to clean as well. This being the area where you will be working the most, it is important that you like it adequately.

We have older kitchen cabinets in our rental home and the hinges are rusty in places. Is there anyway to get the rust off to try and salvage them for a few months until we can afford to buy new ones? We tried steel wool -but it just knocked off the high spots. I’m going to try Brasso this afternoon. Any other suggestions?

I was spray painting some items in my small apartment–Yes I know you shouldn’t spraypaint indoors but I did it anyway– When I lifted the newspaper that I was spray painting on I notice that a thin layer remained on the kitchen floor around the area that was covered. What is the best way clean my floor?

I don’t mean to be offensive but women are not typically great cooks these days. “Just like Momma used to make” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it any more.
Wouldn’t it be best to just order some pizza or let us men handle the cooking?

Previous homeowner stuck carpet tiles on to kitchen tiles. We removed them and although we cant see any sticky stuff I’m sure its not totally glue free as kitchen floor keeps hold of dirt and grime and always seems to be a bit grubby and a little sticky and dirty. I want a really clean kitchen floor. I’ve tried Jif and hot water, on my hands and knees! Any ideas please?

I have plastic kitchen cabinet drawers that are stained with a dark brown substance (appears to be wood stain). I’ve tried general household and kitchen cleaners. Can you suggest something that might work?

There are a few things that add character to a home in New York like the d?cor and styles that the owner puts into it.? These styles truly come out when you walk into the living room, kitchen and bathroom.? Because these are the rooms that most people spend most, if not all, of their waking hours in their homes in, they tend to reflect more about the person.?
One example of this would be the countertop that was chosen.? Of course part of this will be connected to the financial aspect of things, but a Corian kitchen countertop in Manhattan will say a lot about a person in comparison with an old laminate counter that has been there for decades and is out of date, worn and in desperate need of something new.? The Corian countertop will give the room a much more elegant, classy look and feel that your guests are sure to notice when they enter your kitchen.? This type of countertop often will say that the person has good taste, but is also not necessarily willing to break the bank on decorating the house.? The rest of the kitchen will generally be drawn to the countertop.? This means that the other colors in the kitchen will be taken from the countertop and highlight the rest of the room.? All of this d?cor simply pulled from Corian kitchen countertop in Manhattan.
The bathroom is another room that simply draws out a person’s personality.? This is mostly because the space is small so only a few items can be placed in the bathroom.? Many people will work to keep their bathrooms looking new or will simply get a new bathroom in the Bronx every now and then.? Because the area is so much smaller than most other rooms in the house, it is easier to do this in the bathroom.? A new bathroom in the Bronx doesn’t necessarily mean that they completely redo everything either.? Many times simple repainting the room, re-caulking the tub or just finding a new set of d?cor to hang will bring new life to a bathroom.?
