Minimum Distance From Counter To Island In Kitchen?

For my design project, I’m designing a U-shaped kitchen. I plan to put a island in the middle. The island is 2×3 feet. The distance from counter to island is 3 feet(36 inches) on 3 sides. Do you think this would be too tight? I can’t make the space bigger without making the island smaller(can’t move the walls).

How Do You Remove Rust From Chromed Kitchen Cabinet Hinges?

We have older kitchen cabinets in our rental home and the hinges are rusty in places. Is there anyway to get the rust off to try and salvage them for a few months until we can afford to buy new ones? We tried steel wool -but it just knocked off the high spots. I’m going to try Brasso this afternoon. Any other suggestions?

Previous homeowner stuck carpet tiles on to kitchen tiles. We removed them and although we cant see any sticky stuff I’m sure its not totally glue free as kitchen floor keeps hold of dirt and grime and always seems to be a bit grubby and a little sticky and dirty. I want a really clean kitchen floor. I’ve tried Jif and hot water, on my hands and knees! Any ideas please?

I purchased a 12 year old home with custom pine kitchen cabinets in which one set has an unpleasant odor. The surrounding cabinets aren’t as bad. I was told the foul odor in the cabinets was due to the home being closed up and there was no central air. I installed central air, leave the cabinet doors open cleaned the cabinets with bleach and set baking soda on the shelves. Still, two months later, the smell remains.
